I made this mixed media canvas the other day because a friend of mine was having a bad week. I thought I could make something that might make her smile, scan it, and post it on FB on her wall. I had so much fun making it! I used acrylics for the background, patterned paper for the flowers, pencils for the birdie, and a marker to define some of the objects.

We renovated our kitchen this year and installed soapstone countertops. The countertops are black and the cabinets are white so I felt like I needed to hang something over the white cabinets to balance the colors. There is also some green in the kitchen so I took a picture of this beautiful pear on my countertops and then added texture to the image with digital stamps and digital texture. Since it was going to hang in my kitchen, I also added a quote related to food.

I took this photo when our friends Tom, Cheryl, and their two sons visited Austin from California. We spent a wonderful summer day with them by the water. At one point Marc picked up a dragonfly and started making silly poses with it which I captured with the camera. This is one of my favorites. I simply applied a radial blur and made sure the center was on the dragonfly.

I have discovered a very fun app. I have been following an amazing artist called Traci Bautista and one of her videos showcased this app. It is called ArtStudio and is available for iPhone and iPad. I created this image using a combination of two different images (the app allows the use of layers!) that I took while on vacation in Wisconsin plus some 'paint' using the brush and pencil tool in the app. It was fun and easy!

A couple of weeks ago our yard was crawling with dragonflies. I have always loved them so I grabbed my camera and tried to get a picture of one. The picture was good but I thought it would be more fun to use the image to challenge myself to create more art from it. The first image is the original photo, the second is the photo layered over other images of texture and plants, the third is a painting with acrylic inks, soft body acrylics, and watercolors on claybord, and the last one is a simple watercolor.
